Terms of use
Free for families and classrooms. Please do not sell or republish it.
What these terms cover
These terms apply to Phonics Picnic and everything on it: the word lists and the way each word is split, the sound recordings, the printable sheets, and the design and code of the site itself. By using the site you agree to them. If you are using it with children, you are agreeing on their behalf.
Copyright
The word lists, the splits, the recordings, the sheets and the site are © 2026 Phonics Picnic. All rights are reserved except for the permissions given below. The words themselves, and the sounds of English, belong to everyone.
You may
We give families, teachers, tutors and schools a free, non-exclusive licence to:
- Use the site at home, in class, in tutoring, or in intervention groups, on any screen, including a projector.
- Print and photocopy sheets for your own students or children, as many as you need.
- Play the sounds and words to the children you teach or care for.
- Share links, including links that open a particular word or lesson, and post them in your class's own learning platform.
This licence is for teaching and reading with children. It cannot be passed on to anyone else, and we can withdraw it if these terms are broken.
Please do not
- Sell Phonics Picnic material, or include it in anything that is sold, for example on Teachers Pay Teachers or in a paid bundle.
- Republish the word lists, the splits or the recordings on another website or in an app. Link to the page instead; it stays up to date.
- Copy the site in bulk. Downloading large numbers of recordings or pages, for republishing or for building a collection or dataset, needs our written permission first.
- Remove the Phonics Picnic name from printed sheets, or present our material as your own.
Our name
The Phonics Picnic name belongs to us. You may use it to say where something came from. Please do not use it in a way that suggests we made, approved or sponsored something we did not.
Programs named here
Phonics Picnic is original work, lined up with the lesson order of UFLI Foundations. It is not made or endorsed by UFLI or the University of Florida, and UFLI is a trademark of its owner, in which we claim no rights. Common Core State Standards are © 2010 National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and Council of Chief State School Officers; the descriptions on this site are our own shortened wording, not the text of the standards. Montessori is a generic name for a method of teaching.
Fonts
The letters on the tiles are set in Andika, and the interface in Nunito, both under the SIL Open Font License; their licences are served with the fonts.
No guarantees
We check every split against its source and listen to the recordings in batches as they go online, but the site is provided as it is, without a warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any loss arising from its use.
If you think something here is yours
We publish only original work. If you believe a recording or a list on this site infringes your rights, write to hello@phonicspicnic.com with a link to the page, a description of what you own, and how to reach you. We will look into it promptly.
